So, this is what screwing up a cast-iron franchise like Judge Dredd does for your career: sequels to second-rate teen slashers. This is just so predictable; four obnoxious preppie archetypes are trapped on a storm-bound island, being stalked by…oh, y’know – the usual. It’s hard to care about a bunch of annoying teens, and I tended to find myself surreptitiously rooting for the killer. The scares bat about .083 for effectiveness, and the major delight is an interesting range of supporting characters, led by Jeffrey Combs as a sarcastic hotel receptionist. Naturally, these die long before the teens start getting whacked. Right down to the “surprise” ending, it’s like the 80’s never happened.
